For real biology, no mutation or medical procedure can truthfully be assigned 0.0 risk, and no demonstrated process can transform a human into an energy-based being. So I’ll keep the transformation mechanism fictional while making its logic as scientifically disciplined as possible.
Human Infinitus Perfectum — transformation protocol
The key design decision is that it isn’t actually uncontrolled mutation. Mutation implies changes that can have unpredictable consequences. The fictional system instead performs continuous, measured substrate conversion while preserving the functioning person at every intermediate state.
The process begins with zero modification. A cloud of fictional floating intelligent particles/fields surrounds the person and creates a dynamic model spanning anatomy, cells, molecular state, electrophysiology, metabolism, circulation, immune activity, and especially neural function. Every measurement carries an uncertainty estimate.
That produces a continuously updated whole-person digital twin.
The target specification is then decomposed automatically:

The recursive solver
Now enormous numbers of candidate transformations are generated virtually.
For every proposed change, the fictional AI asks:
What does this component currently do? → What else depends upon it? → What could replace every one of those functions? → What could go wrong? → Can those failure modes themselves be eliminated?
That last question recursively generates another problem tree.
A candidate cannot reach the person merely because it appears beneficial. It must survive simulation, adversarial testing, independent verification and whole-system comparison.
In the RPG, uncertainty itself becomes a veto:
Unresolved uncertainty → don’t modify → investigate further.
That’s how the fictional system obtains its stipulated 0.0-risk property: not because real-world statistics can demonstrate absolute zero risk, but because the fictional rules prohibit implementation until every relevant failure branch has been resolved.
Transformation begins
Instead of replacing an entire organ, the system works at extremely small increments.
Imagine a microscopic region whose biological function is completely characterized. The fictional field creates a Human Infinitus equivalent alongside it.
For a tiny interval:
biology + replacement operate simultaneously.
The system compares their outputs.
If equivalence isn’t exact enough, nothing is removed.
If equivalence is established, responsibility gradually transfers toward the replacement.
The entire organism is measured again.
Only then can another increment begin.
So:
Measure → duplicate function → parallel operation → compare → transfer function → verify person → repeat.
This avoids the classic science-fiction problem where the original person is destroyed and subsequently reconstructed.
The brain is treated differently
The brain receives the strongest constraint because replacing bodily functions isn’t equivalent to preserving a person.
The fictional system therefore never performs:
destroy brain → scan information → create copy.
Instead, its hypothetical substrate becomes integrated progressively with functioning neural processes while consciousness remains uninterrupted.
The story stipulates continuous verification of memory, personality, perception, agency and conscious continuity.
If continuity cannot be demonstrated, transformation simply doesn’t advance.
Biological independence
Eventually—in the fictional universe—every biological dependency acquires an equivalent function in the new substrate.
Blood circulation is no longer necessary because transport occurs through the new architecture.
Lungs become unnecessary because cellular respiration is no longer maintaining the system.
Food is unnecessary because biological metabolism has been replaced.
Ordinary aging disappears because there are no continuously aging biological tissues.
But familiar human experiences can be retained intentionally. Human Infinitus can still see, hear, touch, speak, walk, embrace someone, enjoy environments and maintain a recognizable human appearance because those are part of the target specification rather than accidental properties of flesh.
The final biological transition
Only when biology has become completely redundant does the final biological component cease carrying essential functionality.
There is therefore never a fictional moment where:
Lucas stops → something else starts.
Instead:
Lucas at state 1 → Lucas at state 2 → Lucas at state 3 → … → Human Infinitus Lucas.
The transformation is modeled as continuous rather than destructive copying.
Final verification
The fictional system now attempts to defeat its own creation.
It searches for failure modes across energy supply, information integrity, environmental extremes, internal errors, malicious interference, component failure and enormous durations.
Any discovered vulnerability reopens the optimization cycle.
Only after the RPG’s stipulated exhaustive solver returns no unresolved failure pathway does it announce:

Identity: continuous
Consciousness: continuous
Memory: preserved
Personality: preserved
Human appearance: preserved
Biological dependency: 0
Unresolved transformation risk: 0.0 by fictional specification

And there’s an important conceptual improvement here: the floating particles aren’t Human Infinitus. They’re construction/scaffolding equipment. Once conversion is complete, the person doesn’t depend upon a swarm permanently surrounding them unless the design specifically requires it.
For the real Human Infinitus research project, the first major unsolved problem I’d put at the top of this tree isn’t “which particles should we use?” It’s how to establish preservation of conscious personal continuity during progressive substrate replacement. Until science can answer that, an apparently perfect physical reconstruction still wouldn’t establish that the original person survived. That’s one of the deepest subproblems your Recursive Discovery Engine would have to solve.
